Probably the best article ever written about me

I blush at the attention. You know, some things I never get used to — and that includes seeing my own photograph in a newspaper. But this article was in-depth and nicely written, and I can’t resist posting it here. Bob Keyes made me so comfortable that I even revealed my age (!) which, as I get older, I’m more and more reluctant to do.
And to think that when I was in my twenties, I thought that women who hid their ages were pitiful.

Great article. I can’t wait to pick up my book tomorrow and I’m looking forward to next year’s Rizzoli & Isles book. I like the topic.

you still don’t look close to your age-it must be that healthy sea air in camden(although i live near the ocean and it hasn’t amde me look younger :))

Wow, I can’t believe you…your new book isn’t even out yet (one day yay!) and you’re giving away tantalizing hints about your next one!!! Well, at least I know I can depend on somebody to write a damn good book at least once a year

How can you work with the wall slanting in on you like that?!
It says you live in Camden… Are you going to the Literary Festival there next month? I know Gary Braver and Matthew Pearl are going to be doing a panel together (I’m guessing about thrillers)… You going to be involved in that at all?

Kyle, yes, I’ll be at the literary festival in Camden — in fact I’ll be on the same panel as Gary Braver and Matthew Pearl, so it should be a lot of fun!
Glad everyone liked the article. And yeah, the eaves do slant in a little, but there’s plenty of space in the middle!

Hi Tess,
I am curious about your writing process - perhaps you will answer these questions for us all here:
1.) The article said you write 4 pages a day…is that a minimum you set for yourself? What I am wondering is really - if you get on a roll, do you stop at 4 pages…or is 4 pages the minimum you’ll accept from yourself on a tough day when the words aren’t flowing well?
2.) How does 4 handwritten pages compare to pages in the final book? Is it nearly 1 for 1? Or do you need to write many more pages than the the number of book pages (either because of the size of your writing vs the size of type or because you may circle back and drop sections completely, etc.)?
3.) When the book transitions from ink on paper to computer - do you type it in yourself? If so, is that tedious or do you edit as it goes in?

It was a very interesting article. You should never be reluctant to let people know how old you are, Tess. Rather than pointing out how little you’ve experienced, you highlight how far you’ve come.
