Want an advance peek at what THE KEEPSAKE is about? Hop on over to Youtube and check out the cool book trailer that’s been created by two filmmakers here in my town, Jonathan Laurence and Ryan White. It gives me the chills just watching it.
Send the link to everyone you know!

That’s creepy as hell, Tess. Love it!

How awesome!!! Can’t wait to read the book!

Very well done!
Looking forward to seeing you at the Fertile Mind in September and getting an autographed copy (or two!).

Very cool and now I really can’t wait! Have mentioned it in my blog.
Is it common to have a film trailer for a book? Perhaps this is something I’ve missed, as I don’t go to the cinema?
August 19th, 2008 @ 12:38 pm |
Tess,
They did a wonderful job with the trailer.
You should be proud and I wish you well with the launch of your new book.
With the idea of your comment trail being a community of writers helping one another, I am going to chime in with an answer to Flash Bristow’s question. Book trailers are a new marketing tool for authors that are becoming more and more in vogue, and no they aren’t in the cinema - at least not yet.
If you’d like to learn more about book trailers, here’s a link to a blog by a company that makes them:
http://booktrailers.blogspot.com/
I learned about COS productions after I blogged about Kemble Scott’s speech for my writers club and they left a reply filled with all kinds of information.
Kemble Scott is a journalist who wrote a novel and was urged by a friend to promote his book by creating video clips for Youtube. Scott was told by Google that he was the first to create a book trailer for a novel and it helped propel his book “SoMa” onto the San Francisco Chronicle’s bestseller list upon publication.
My post on that subject is here:

I hope that helps answer your question.

Holy crap.
I need to start reading the Rizzoli series… I have one book that I got at a signing with you, but want to start from the beginning… Now I’ll have to go out and buy them so I can read this new one!
How much time do I have?
August 19th, 2008 @ 1:11 pm |
Hi Flash,
book trailers seem to be the hot new thing! I commissioned this one because I thought it’d be fun to do — and because the story lends itself to a lot of creepy images.
Kyle,
the book comes out Sept. 9. You have about three weeks to catch up on the series!
August 19th, 2008 @ 1:37 pm |
Terrific trailer- should gain you some additional new fans
Too bad the publisher didn’t (help) foot the bill (you did say that “you” commissioned this), since they (the publisher) stand to benefit long term as well.
Oh well, at least the trailer is up and running
August 19th, 2008 @ 3:33 pm |
Oh no! I’m not THAT quick of a reader!!!
August 19th, 2008 @ 5:06 pm |
Sorry for the 10,ooo comments, but I just noticed that your UK title is different… your call, or your publishers? How do you feel about it?
August 19th, 2008 @ 5:32 pm |
Hi Kyle,
yes, the UK title is different! And here’s the YouTube link to the KEEPING THE DEAD video trailer — you’ll see that it’s almost exactly the same… until the end!

I love it! It’s so creepy that I can’t wait to read this book.
August 19th, 2008 @ 7:34 pm |
And now… A word from Scooby Doo….
“RIIIIIIIIIIIIKES! Raggy! Ronsters!!!!!!!!!” *puppy whimpers*
Hahahahahahaa!!!!! Creeeeeeeeeeeepy!
August 19th, 2008 @ 10:05 pm |
Wow, Tess. I was already eager to get the book now I’m even more. Great trailer!!! I’ve read the series and I’m thinking “Oh no!! Is it Dr. Isles or Rizzoli?” I’m taking my scholar day in school to go get the book as soon as the bookstore opens. Best of luck!
August 19th, 2008 @ 10:59 pm |
I had one reaction to this book trailer (which is an awesome idea, by the way) WHOO-HOO! I can’t wait until a new Rizzoli/Isles mystery hits!
August 20th, 2008 @ 6:41 am |
Oh man, that IS creepy! LOL! But then, I have always thought your books would make great movies if they could find the right actors to play Dr. Isles and Rizzoli. And if they could create a script as close to the book version as possible. I know that’s not always easy, given the time constraints and budgets for films, but I feel it’s better not to make a movie than to ruin what is a fab story. We’ve all seen some remarkably bad (to say the least) examples of that.
August 20th, 2008 @ 10:12 am |
I think that the trailer really captures realism and atmosphere of your books. That is exactly how I picture things in my mind while reading this series. I remember once watching trailer of another big crime fiction writer and her trailer just struck me as wrong, like it was nothing I imagined it to be:-). I just can’t wait for The Keepsake! Any cat fights in it?
Kyle, you better find nice and comfy seat. ASAP!!! You are in for a great ride! As a matter of fact I think I’m going to reread mine.
August 20th, 2008 @ 12:55 pm |
You’re new novel looks sounds and looks great! The promotional video is a wonderful idea. You couldn’t have asked for a more enticing advertisement for your work. I can’t wait to get my hands on the book. I promise I’ll keep them cleaner than the horrifying murderer in the video.
August 20th, 2008 @ 3:59 pm |
The trailer looks great! I can tell I’m really going to enjoy this next book. I saw on your tour calendar that you’re coming to NE Florida in October — yippee for me, I finally can come to a signing!!
August 20th, 2008 @ 5:17 pm |
Lookes awesome! I can hardly wait for this one. I do hope someday that this series is turned into something for TV. Seeing a book trailer always has me thinking that way.
August 20th, 2008 @ 6:37 pm |
Arghhh! My wife has been nagging me ever since Tuesday, when I stupidly revealed to her that a new Tess Gerritsen book was coming out. I should have kept my mouth shut and ordered it as a surprise. The trailer only makes the wait more painful!
Previous releases have seen an Australian release date close to that of the US release date. I hope that trend continues, otherwise I’ll have to quickly ship a copy over from Amazon.
August 20th, 2008 @ 7:52 pm |
Tried to view it and it said ‘Removed by User’. *Sigh* To be fair i still have to read Vanish and The Mephisto club. It sucks being in the UK because all of your book signings are in the USA. Great work on Body Double, my dad tried hard to prise all of your books from my fingers.
August 20th, 2008 @ 11:04 pm |
Loved the trailer!
Do we even have a proper Aussie release date yet? Hopefully, yeah the trend remains the same and we get a close release date to the US. I’ll be in New Zealand in late September, so that means lots of sitting in airports and travelling around, so I’ll need a good book to read!
August 21st, 2008 @ 7:39 am |
Kenneth,
we had to change the KEEPING THE DEAD version a bit, at Transworld’s suggestion, so we removed the old file. The new one is here:

Awesome, good enough to be a real movie trailer. Hollywood calling yet Tess? I could totally see a bunch of movies about Rizzoli and Isles. Fingers crossed.
August 21st, 2008 @ 11:41 am |
I’ve watched a lot of book trailers lately but these are the best I’ve seen and I had to watch them both.
Can you post a list of the Rizzoli & Isles books in order? Like Kyle K I have this urge to read them in order.
August 21st, 2008 @ 11:48 am |
I recently discovered the Rizzoli & Isles series. I am already on the last book, the Mephisto, of the series. I am so excited to hear of a new one coming out so soon. I was trying to take my time reading this last one because I didn’t want it to end. Now that I know I have another one I can run out and get, I will be finished with this one in no time!!!
The trailor looks amazing, which makes me even more excited to purchase this next book. But then again I love your books and I don’t need a trailor to know that it will be awesome!!
I must say, to agree with other’s comments, that I feel that your books would make amazing movies!!! I have thought that since I read the first one!
August 21st, 2008 @ 2:20 pm |
Wow, I am so excited for the new book.
Especially because I feel as though I am
attached to the characters in the book.
And it’s been a while, or so it seems, since I last read a book with Jane, Maura, and Frost…
So I am most excited about this new book and it seems like it will be outstanding!
Can’t wait!
August 21st, 2008 @ 5:33 pm |
Finally saw it, thanks for the link Tess. Slightly creeped out about the trailer but makes me hunger to read the book increase. Can’t Wait !
August 21st, 2008 @ 11:24 pm |
That was fantastic Tess, When do you hire these guys to do the movie, for the Aussie Fans, just got an email from Random House Australia the Book will be released in Oz in October under the title Keeping The Dead. Does that mean we might see Tess in Australia sometime in her busy schedule.
August 22nd, 2008 @ 12:01 pm |
Bettea, I won’t be coming to Australia this time around — but look forward to visiting in the future.
August 22nd, 2008 @ 8:21 pm |
Hello Tess, I k now it has been a long time since I spoke to you about Vanish (hearing impaired in one chapter). I am extremely exciting to read the new cold case you have for us “KeepSake” or did the title changed to “Keeping the Dead”? Either way- I am ready to read it. I am also curious about the upcoming film project that you’ll be doing for the book- the trailer is awesome! and will it be filming in the theater near future? and when will you be able to come down to chicago area to do the signing..
best of luck and thanks for keeping the blog flowing.. love hearing your update news.
August 23rd, 2008 @ 8:05 am |
Regina,
the book has two different titles, depending on where you buy it. In the U.S., it’s called THE KEEPSAKE. In the UK it’s called KEEPING THE DEAD.
No film project is planned for the book — this book trailer was just to show what the book is about!
September 13th, 2008 @ 12:52 am |
the trailer was INTENSE!!!
I have to say though I am anxious to see some sort of movies or tv series about Rizzoli and Isles (and the rest of the crew)
