The cover designs are in!

Thought you’d like an advance peek at the cover designs for my next Rizzoli and Isles thriller. It’s the same book, but it will be published with different titles, depending on whether you buy it in the US or in the UK.

In the US, the title will be ICE COLD:

And in the UK, the title will be THE KILLING PLACE:

Either way you look at it, the book looks scary!

I prefer the US cover, but both look pretty scary.
Looking forward to getting hold of a copy – just what we need for these cold Winter evenings, but I can already foresee a lot of reading taking place during the day also.

    Hey Tess,
Love the covers, very scary indeed. I also wanted to say congrats on the Rizzoli tv pilot. I’m a huge fan of both Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander so I hope the pilot gets picked up. Very happy for your success.

the book has two different titles because the US and UK publishers couldn’t agree on what to call it. They each feel they know their own markets, so they chose what they believe will best appeal to their own populations.

I wish they would be the same title; as with the Keepsake I think the US title is the best (and I’m part of the UK market!)

Can’t wait to get my hands on it – I have been trying to read other fiction for a change and am sort of enjoying James Patterson, but it’s not the same!

Cool! Can’t wait for it to come! I’ll order a signed copy! 😀

I have to say I prefer the “The Killing Place” cover, I think it’s because of the colors. Red, White Blue. Very strong. The purple and light blue I think doesn’t really match nicely in “Ice Cold”…

Do you have any input on the covers? Can you pick your favorite from a bunch of examples, or can you come up with your own ideas?

I can’t wait! I’ve had a few books on my shelf for a while but if this comes out before I have a chance to get to them, this is at the top of my list!

A question, why do books need a US and UK title? Why not use the same title?

as I mentioned above, the different titles are decisions made by the individual publishers. If an editor in one country doesn’t like the US title, they may decide to change it for their own country. It does lead to some confusion, which I’ll try to highlight on my website for US/UK readers.

Can’t wait… pre-ordered around the same time I heard about the pilot (gotta love for always being early). Exciting times next year 😉 And yes, the different titles can be a bit confusing, but it’s okay as long as I’m not missing anything.

Hmm, I like the UK one better. Which is what I’ll be ordering once it comes out (I’m dutch, but I read in English to simply not get lost in translation).

Question: Is the cover/title the only difference between the books?

Looks fantastic !! I prefer The Killing Place personally and i’m from the uk…i guess they do know which cover will appeal haha. I might have missed it mentioned somewhere but is there a planned release date for it yet ? I honestly hand on my heart can’t wait. Anyway have a good christmas everyone \o/

Interesting to see the difference in opinions on the covers! It looks like the publishers do know their individual markets.

Except for the titles and covers, the book will be the same in UK/US, with the exception of spelling differences, and perhaps any regional terms. (post vs. mail)

As for release dates, ICE COLD will be released July 27 in the US, and THE KILLING PLACE will be released August 5 in the UK.

Thanks for answering my question, I totally missed the post above it. I like the US one, can’t wait for July 27!

Great news. The U.S. cover has more of a “killer” look to it. When will this be on pre-order? 7 months to go for its release? Oh well…wait we must. The best things in life ARE worth wating for. Congrats.

Long time no see, Tess! Everything is looking good with the new upcoming book that I am looking forward to see in stores. As you may not know, I am a graphic design major. I wonder why the UK cover design always look better than the US cover design? Another question (pardon my curiosity), who designed them?

Hope everything is all well for you and your husband. Stay warm up there!
